Artist Statement
My artwork ranges from video art, performance, and critical design research. A lot of the time, it begins from my personal lived experience outward into broader questions of identity, technology, and strength. I use the camera as a witness and a mirror, and as a way to confront my personal struggles while reframing them as shared narratives. Projects like Unbroken and Morning After explore my struggles with alcohol abuse, my journey to sobriety, and the delicate process of rebuilding life after the destruction alcohol caused in it. Works of mine, such as Udderly Branded and the Maze of Time, experiment with various research topics, including consumerism, structure, and constraints, and take place in public spaces.
I find myself drawn to contrasts like order and chaos, or control and loss, as a way of investigating tension and how people make meaning while being in the midst of it. These interests came to light through my work regarding my struggle with alcohol and during my recent study abroad program work in Amsterdam, where I worked to research and combine site-specific design research, journaling, archival pieces, and documentation to engage with my own personal feelings, along with the city's colonial histories, consumerism, and my time in Amsterdam. My art practice over time has also included a multitude of physical and digital tools. From blender to MaxMSP, web coding environments, and the Adobe Creative Suite, I also found object audio and voice recordings, performance for the camera, and painting and collage.
My goals as an artist and personal aesthetic continue to evolve, but my voice is distinct, raw, and rooted in real life. As I continue to study and travel, I am committed to deepening my understanding of global artistic languages and expanding my toolkit. I aim to create work that bridges disciplines, combining personal narrative, cultural context, and creative experimentation into emotionally resonant intermedia experiences
